The Bell at Tanworth in Adren |
To start off my exploration of local hostelries, I took my friend Jenny to the Bell, at Tanworth-in-Arden, a convenient 5-minute drive from the cottages. The Bell overlooks a pretty village green, from the outside it retains all the charm of a 17th century coaching inn. Inside, by contrast, the decor is contemporary and comfortable. We had a table booked for 7.45pm on a Friday night, we arrived fashionably 5mins late! On entering the Bell, we walked into a lively, slightly chaotic, noisy, buzzing bar, full of young to middle age people smartly dressed, out for a social get together.
We were quickly greeted and seated where we settled down to peruse the menus. The atmosphere was busy, warm and friendly with plenty of space. The menus a "regular" and a "specials", offered a variety of dishes covering most meats and a choice of fish, not much choice for the vegetarian. We took an age to decide; too busy nattering. Jenny chose from the specials, Salmon Gravlax to start and Roasted Sea Bass to follow, I went with King Scallops, and then Moroccan Marinated Chicken with Arabic Cous Cous (one of the head chef's trademark dishes). We were both delighted with our choices, no food jealousy on this occasion. We noted the desert menu offered the traditional puddings and pies, along with less filling options, and also a cheese board. We were nearly tempted by the coffee liqueurs but settled for the bill. The food worked out at about £21 each, a service charge of 10% was included on the bill.
